A room becomes instanced once it hits the player cap.
Distance to the US server is one of the things that makes the first load slow.
To see your ping, turn on the FPS and ping display in Accessibility settings (P opens settings).
VPNs have caused sign-up and loading issues, so try without one if you have trouble.
