Chapter 6 of 11 · Verified for Beta Patch 2

ORE, identifying and repairs

ORE keeps your hangar running, so recycle common drops early and keep a steady supply.

ORE is the working currency of the hangar. It identifies modules, repairs ships and pays for blueprint research, so you want a steady supply from your first run on.

Recycling for ORE

  1. At any hub, open the Recycler tab in your stash.
  2. Put in modules and minerals. The return is 25% of the item's build rating.

Faction-issued gear returns nothing. Early on it is worth recycling common drops rather than hoarding them, because you will need ORE for almost everything.

Not everything belongs in the Recycler. Keep rare minerals such as Dark Triton and Solstine for recipes. Dark Triton turns up in the breaches off Greylock.

Mining

You'll need

  1. Find a mineral fragment: they float in breaches with clouds around them.
  2. Mine it with the laser, or hover it and press Q to send out the drones.
  3. Extract to keep what you mined.

Good to know

  • Passive utility modules only boost stats; they do not mine by themselves. A Salvager Rig, for example, adds 20% mining speed. Utility mining-speed bonuses do apply to drones.
  • Damaged drones repair in cargo using Veskar or Pirite.
  • Hel fragments cannot be extracted yet.

Tip

A mining laser mines 25% faster while your heat sits in the Optimal zone.

Identifying modules

  1. If a module refuses to equip, read its tooltip: it is probably unidentified.
  2. Right-click it with enough ORE in your stash to identify it. The tooltip shows the cost before you commit: 10% of the item's rating, at least 1 ORE.

Repairs

You'll need

ORE pays for repairs. Away from your home hub, carry some ORE in cargo and repair at a terminal. Prices at a terminal:

RepairCost
Armor5 ORE per 100 HP
Hull10 ORE per 100 HP
A burned control rod10 ORE

At a hub pad the ORE comes out of your stash; at a breach terminal it comes out of your cargo.

An Armor repairer runs on repair charges, which you buy from your faction's Quartermaster. Once its loaded charges are spent it reloads automatically from charges in your cargo.

A Nanite Regenerator works differently. Since Beta Patch 2 a Standard one restores 70 HP/s for 16 seconds, and more with higher quality and armor-repair bonuses; its tooltip shows the rate, duration and total. Before the patch, nanite repair was described as a flat amount.

Tip

Before a trip away from home, put ORE in cargo. Without it you cannot repair at a terminal.
