Chapter 8 of 11 · Verified for Beta 1 (wipe 1)

Your second ship

Build your next ship before you need it, and a lost run never stops you flying.

Ships come and go in Citadel. Pilots with a second hull ready in the stash are back in a breach straight away.

Where blueprints come from

  • Loot, from breaches and from random mobs. Breaches with the extra-blueprint modifier are worth looking for.
  • Your faction's Quartermaster, for Merits. These are Faction quality and T1 only.
  • The blueprint and industry merchant in Greylock.

Merchants and the Quartermaster also sell finished hulls if you would rather skip crafting.

Building at the Forge

You'll need

A Normal Seraph blueprint, for example, takes 144 Veskar, 138 Pirite, 143 Helspar and 18 Solstine.

  1. Put the ship blueprint in a forge bay.
  2. Have the materials in your hub stash.
  3. Queue the build and collect the hull when it is done. The Forge keeps working while you are offline.
  4. Tether to the refit terminal and use SWITCH SHIP in your stash.

Good to know

Every copy of a hull has the same grid. Crafting the same ship again only rolls a different quality.

Research tiers

Right-click a blueprint in the Forge to research it with ORE. Research raises its tier, from T1 up to T5.

  • Higher tiers improve the odds of high quality, and from T4 you can no longer roll Flawed. Masterwork becomes possible from tier 3.
  • For module blueprints, research also adds ports.
  • Research does not raise material costs; rarer blueprints do.
  • If the queue shows "T2-T4", that is research, not a craft.

Quality

A crafted item's rarity matches its blueprint. Only quality varies:

  • Faction: -15%. Dev-confirmed.
  • Flawed: not yet confirmed. Figures differ: -10%, or as low as -20%.
  • Standard: 0%.
  • Superior: +10%.
  • Masterwork: +20%. Loot never drops Masterwork, so building is the way to get it.

Extra modifiers come afterwards, from consumables, not from the craft itself. Forge cells take the same consumables, for industry modifiers.

Tip

Research before you build in bulk. Getting a blueprint to T4 removes the chance of a Flawed roll for everything you make with it.
